People have used sound in relaxation and healing for thousands of years. The sounds, tones and vibrations we experience with a gong can help us on many levels. A powerful form of meditation and relaxation, the gongs can connect us to our feelings and help release our emotions, rebooting our nervous system by creating a state of deep peace and connection. A gong bath is a special and unique experience.
Science has shown everything in the universe is made up of energy and vibrates at different frequencies – this includes us. We know that the human body is on average made of 57-60% water. This makes us amazingly responsive to sound and vibration and the possibilities and potential of changes at a cellular level.
Our body and brain work together. If one part is out of balance it will be reflected in our emotional and physical health – such as stress, anxiety, sleep issues, depression etc. Sound therapy can quickly transport us into a relaxing and meditative state (alpha brainwaves), and then carry us into a deeper sleep like state where we can connect and let go of our fears and concerns (theta brainwaves). Sometimes the brainwaves really slow into a very deep dreamless state where profound changes can happen (delta brainwaves).
Therapeutic Shamanism in Counselling Therapy
The training I have taken sits closely in my own professional and personal set of values. I do not claim to be a Shaman, I identify myself as a trained and informed counsellor, the teachings on this course are structured for integration into “conventional” counselling and psychotherapy. The process centres around a Shamanic Journeying, a deeply relaxing state, in which you may find answers, information, wisdom, guidance or help with things in your life.
Therapeutic Shamanism can offer clients an illuminating and creative way to align with the power of nature and support them to reconnect to lost parts of themselves. offer some clarity on a specific issue, and simply be incorporated into ongoing therapeutic therapy work..
I have completed a training course in Psycho-spiritual and Therapeutic Shamanism with Christa MacKinnon, who runs the Bridging The Worlds Training Modern Medicine Woman School.
“This we know:
The Earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the Earth.
All things are connected like the blood that unites one family.
Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.
Whatever he does to the web,he does unto himself”.
